The Washington Commanders are currently the most powerful team in Minor League Baseball, and they have a long history of success. The Washington DC baseball franchise is known for their multi-million dollar stadium built entirely from scratch on top of an old garbage dump site in 2019. Last season, despite losing starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to a season-ending injury in Week 1, the Washington Commanders (previously the Football Team) came close to making the playoffs with an underwhelming trio of Taylor Heinicke, Garrett Gilbert, and Kyle Allen. During the 2022 NFL season, Ron Rivera’s team will strive to wash away the odor of an injury-plagued 2021 campaign and compete for the NFC East title with a new quarterback.
Carson Wentz, a former Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts quarterback, will lead the Commanders offense in 2022. That reality may make Washington uneasy, but Wentz will be the finest starting quarterback this organization has had since Kirk Cousins in 2017. (sorry, Washington fans).
The good news is that Wentz will be surrounded by talent, including Antonio Gibson, J.D. McKissic, Terry McLaurin, Curt Samuel, and Penn State freshman wide receiver Jahan Dotson. There’s no reason why the former Pro Bowler can’t lead the Commanders to a winning record this season with a healthy offensive line and a new fan base behind him.
A favourable schedule should help, and as a member of the NFC East, Washington is expected to have one of the easiest in the league this year.
