French player Arthur Rinderknech advanced to the semi-finals of the Atlanta Open after defeating Italian qualifier Mattia Bellucci 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-1 at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Saturday night.
Rinderknech, who is ranked No 64, will now face Japanese player Yoshihito Nishioka in the next round.
Prior to this win, Rinderknech had also beaten American J.J. Wolf (6-3, 6-2) and Australian Adam Walton (7-6 (4), 6-3) in earlier matches.
Bellucci, ranked No 146, made it to the semi-finals after benefiting from the retirement of Australian player Aleksandar Vukic (1-6, 6-4, 3-1) and defeating Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the second seed, (7-6 (6), 4-6, 6-3) in previous rounds.
