David Goffin of Belgium advanced to the semi-finals of the Winston-Salem Open with a victory over Australian Rinky Hijikata, the No. 16 seed, with a score of 6-1, 6-3 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Thursday evening.
Goffin, ranked No. 90, is set to face Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the No. 10 seed, in the next round.
Prior to his win, the 33-year-old Belgian defeated Jaume Munar of Spain (7-5, 4-6, 6-3), Italian Luciano Darderi, the No. 5 seed (6-2, 6-4), and Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, the No. 12 seed (6-3, 6-3).
On the other hand, Hijikata, ranked No. 65, secured victories over Frenchman Arthur Cazaux (4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4)) and Croat Borna Coric (3-6, 6-3, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the tournament.
