The Monterrey Open tournament was won by Linda Noskova, the No 6 seed, who defeated New Zealander Lulu Sun 7-6 (6), 6-4 at Sonoma Club on Sunday night.
Noskova, ranked No 35, had impressive victories throughout the tournament, including wins against Kazakh qualifier Anna Danilina (6-0, 6-1), Chinese Xiyu Wang (6-4, 7-6 (11)), Ukrainian Elina Svitolina (6-4, 6-4), and American Emma Navarro (7-6 (7), 7-5).
On the other hand, Sun, ranked No 57, defeated Frenchwoman Chloe Paquet (7-6 (3), 6-3), Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle (6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (2)), Russian Erika Andreeva (6-4, 6-3), and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 3 seed (7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (6)), in the previous rounds of the Monterrey tournament.
