2024 Osaka Open Tennis Tournament: Ito Shocks Lys in WTA Match

In the Osaka Open at the Utsubo Tennis Center, Japanese qualifier Aoi Ito defeated German lucky loser Eva Lys 6-7 (8), 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals on Friday night. Ito, ranked 188th, will now face the winner of the match between Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell and Japanese wildcard Sara Saito.
Before her victory, Ito also won against American wildcard Sofia Kenin (6-2, 3-6, 7-5) and Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the No 8 seed (6-4, 6-3). Lys, ranked 118th, had victories over Colombian Camila Osorio (6-2, 6-3) and American McCartney Kessler (7-6 (7), 3-6, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the tournament. Other results from the Osaka WTA 250 last eight matches at the Utsubo Tennis Center included Kimberly Birrell against Sara Saito, Diane Parry against Clara Tauson, and Suzan Lamens (Q) defeating Ana Bogdan (Q) with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
