2024 US Open: Fritz defeats Ruud in ATP Tennis

American Taylor Fritz, the No. 12 seed, emerged victorious against Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No. 8 seed, with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of the US Open in New York on Sunday evening.

Fritz showcased his exceptional serving skills by delivering 24 aces and winning 84 percent of first serve points during the two-hour, 43-minute match. Additionally, he outperformed Ruud with 56 winners compared to Ruud’s 32, solidifying his spot in the US Open quarter-finals for the second consecutive year.

Ranked No. 12, Fritz is set to face the winner of the match between American Brandon Nakashima and German Alexander Zverev, the No. 4 seed, in the next round.

Before his latest victory, Fritz defeated Argentinian Camilo Ugo Carabelli (7-5, 6-1, 6-2), Italian Matteo Berrettini (6-3, 7-6 (1), 6-1), and Argentinian Francisco Comesana (6-3, 6-4, 6-2).

In contrast, Ruud, ranked No. 8, secured wins against Chinese qualifier Yunchaokete Bu (7-6 (2), 6-2, 6-2), Frenchman Gael Monfils (6-4, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (3)), and Chinese Juncheng Shang (6-7 (1), 3-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
