The top seed, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Washington Open by defeating Russian qualifier Kamilla Rakhimova 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center on Thursday night.
Sabalenka, ranked No. 3, will face either Chinese Yafan Wang or Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No. 6 seed, in the next round.
In the previous round of the tournament, Rakhimova, ranked No. 105, defeated American Katie Volynets 6-4, 6-3.
