Sebastian Korda secured a 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory over No 9 seed Taylor Fritz to progress to the last 16 of the Montreal Masters at Stade IGA. Ranked No 18, Korda will now face Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 6 seed, in the next round.
In the previous round of the Rogers Cup, Korda advanced due to the withdrawal of Canadian wildcard Vasek Pospisil (2-1). Fritz, ranked No 13, defeated Argentinian Mariano Navone (6-4, 6-1) in the first round.
Other second-round results from the Montreal Masters 1000 at Stade IGA on hardcourt include: Arthur Rinderknech (Q) beating Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-2, Alexei Popyrin defeating Ben Shelton (11) 6-4, 7-6 (4), and Alejandro Tabilo (15) outplaying Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 6-2, among others.
