Jack Draper secured his spot in the quarterfinals of the Japan Open by defeating the second-seeded Pole, Hubert Hurkacz, with a score of 6-4, 6-4 at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Friday.
This win marks Draper’s third victory over a top 10 player in his last four matches against tennis’ elite, and his fifth overall in his career.
Currently ranked 20th, Draper will face the winner of the match between American Brandon Nakashima and Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the next round.
Prior to his recent victory, Jack Draper defeated Italian qualifier Mattia Bellucci (6-4, 6-2).
In the previous round of the Tokyo Open, the 8th-ranked Hurkacz narrowly beat American Marcos Giron (6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-4).
