Simona Halep, Romania’s most successful female tennis player, has won two Grand Slam singles titles and 24 singles titles worldwide. She received a nine-month ban from the Court of Arbitration for Sport after testing positive for a banned substance in October 2022. Halep made her return to the WTA Tour at the 2024 Miami Open after successfully appealing her ban. Despite receiving wildcards for subsequent tournaments, she withdrew due to a knee injury. She is set to return to action at the WTA 125 event in Hong Kong in May.
Halep has denied knowingly taking any banned substances and has expressed frustration at the delays in her case being heard. She is currently suing the supplement company that provided the supplements involved in her positive test. Halep’s personal life, including her divorce from husband Toni Iuruc, has also been in the spotlight. She is currently working with coach Carlos Martinez-Comet and remains determined to continue her successful tennis career.
