Top seed Italian Jannik Sinner defeated No 30 seed Tomas Machac 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the final of the Shanghai Masters at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center on Saturday night.
Sinner, the No 1 ranked player, will face the winner of the match between Serb Novak Djokovic (No 4 seed) and American Taylor Fritz (No 7 seed) in the final.
Leading up to his victory, Sinner also won matches against Taro Daniel of Japan (6-1, 6-4), Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina (6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-2), Ben Shelton of the USA (6-4, 7-6 (1)), and Daniil Medvedev of Russia (6-1, 6-4).
Meanwhile, Machac (No 33) had wins against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain (1-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4), Aleksandar Vukic of Australia (6-4, 6-2), Tommy Paul of the USA (3-6, 6-4, 6-3), and Carlos Alcaraz of Spain (7-6 (5), 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
