French tennis player Hugo Gaston defeated Australian Alex De Minaur, the top seed, with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 to move on to the semi-finals of the European Open at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp on Friday evening.
Gaston, who is currently ranked 77th, will be facing Spanish player Roberto Bautista Agut in the next round.
Prior to his victory, Gaston also managed to beat Russian qualifier Alexey Vatutin (3-6, 6-3, 6-3) and Argentinian Mariano Navone, the 7th seed (6-4, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4)).
De Minaur, ranked 9th, had previously won against Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena (2-6, 6-4, 6-2) in the previous round of the Antwerp Open.
