American Marcos Giron, seeded No. 8, secured a spot in the semi-finals of the European Open at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp by defeating Belgian Zizou Bergs 6-2, 6-2 on Friday evening.
Giron, currently ranked No. 47, is set to face No. 5 seed Jiri Lehecka in the next round after Lehecka’s surprising victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas earlier in the day.
In earlier matches at the Antwerp Open, Giron emerged victorious against Botic van de Zandschulp (6-4, 6-1) and Arthur Rinderknech (7-6 (6), 7-6 (4)).
Bergs, ranked No. 69, defeated Facundo Diaz Acosta (7-5, 6-4) and No. 4 seed Sebastian Baez (6-3, 6-4) in previous matches at the tournament.
