Qualifier Zeynep Sonmez advanced to the second round of the Tokyo Open after defeating No. 7 seed Magdalena Frech in a tough match at the Ariake Coliseum on Monday night. Sonmez, currently ranked No. 148, will now face the winner of the match between lucky loser Sara Saito and qualifier Sayaka Ishii.
