Russian Anna Blinkova, the No 5 seed, secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Abierto Tampico after defeating American qualifier Varvara Lepchenko 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday night. With a current ranking of No 85, Blinkova will now face Canadian Rebecca Marino in the next round. Prior to this win, the Russian also triumphed over Slovak Veronika Erjavec (6-3, 6-0) and Anastasia Tikhonova (6-0, 6-7 (4), 6-1). Meanwhile, Lepchenko, ranked No 149, claimed victories over German Jule Niemeier (6-3, 6-3) and Swiss Jil Teichmann (7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
