Italian player Lucia Bronzetti advanced to the semi-finals of the Guangzhou Open after defeating Chinese player Xiyu Wang 6-4, 6-1 at the Nansha International Tennis Center on Friday. Bronzetti, ranked 84th, will now face American qualifier Caroline Dolehide in the next round.
Before her victory over Wang, Bronzetti also claimed wins against Armenian player Elina Avanesyan (6-1, 6-4) and Romanian player Jaqueline Cristian (7-6 (5), 6-4).
On the other hand, Wang, ranked 99th, earned victories against Dutch player Arantxa Rus (6-2, 6-4) and wildcard Sijia Wei (3-6, 6-0, 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
In other quarter-final results at the Guangzhou WTA 250 tournament at the Nansha International Tennis Center, Caroline Dolehide defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 4-6, 6-0, Olga Danilovic beat Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-4, 6-4, and Katerina Siniakova (1) defeated Bernarda Pera 6-4, 7-5.
