“The second set turned into more of a mental battle. My energy level dropped a bit and my decision-making became inconsistent. I knew I had to reset quickly because at this level, you can’t afford to dwell in that situation for too long. Despite not feeling my best today, I’m proud of how I fought through and managed to come out on top.
Currently ranked No. 18, Draper is set to face the winner of the match between top seed German Alexander Zverev and No. 6 seed Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the next round.
Prior to this victory, Jack Draper defeated Japanese wildcard Kei Nishikori (7-6 (5), 7-5) and Italian Luciano Darderi (7-5, 6-1).
Ranked No. 27, Machac secured wins against Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (7-6 (5), 6-1) and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No. 3 seed (6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
