In earlier matches, De Minaur secured victories against Jan-Lennard Struff (2-6, 6-2, 6-2) and Flavio Cobolli (7-6 (2), 3-1 ret.) in the Vienna tournament. Mensik, ranked No. 51, defeated Alexei Popyrin (7-6 (3), 6-2) and Miomir Kecmanovic (6-3, 7-6 (7)) in prior rounds.
