In the Abierto Tampico, Russian player Anna Blinkova, seeded No 5, advanced to the final by defeating Canadian Rebecca Marino in a thrilling match on Friday night. Blinkova, ranked No 85, will now face either Canadian qualifier Marina Stakusic or Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo, seeded No 6, in the final. Leading up to her victory, Blinkova also won against Slovak Veronika Erjavec, Anastasia Tikhonova, and American Varvara Lepchenko. On the other hand, Marino, ranked No 118, secured her spot in the final by defeating Mexican wildcard Jessica Hinojosa Gomez, Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, and Australian Maya Joint in the previous rounds.
