So, it’s been over a year since the Eagles drafted Donovan McNabb with the second pick in the NFL Draft. Even now, SBNation.com’s Eagles site, Birds 247, claims that the team made a mistake by selecting the former Washington Husky. The team’s opinion of McNabb has been well documented on the site, but that hasn’t stopped McNabb from doing his best to get on their good side. While McNabb has been busy being the best quarterback the Eagles have ever seen, ESPN’s Jemele Hill has been working hard to change their minds about him.
Donovan McNabb is, without a doubt, one of the best football players to ever play the game. In his 16 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, McNabb is a three-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion. But while McNabb is unquestionably one of the best quarterbacks to play the game, he is just one example of a black quarterback having to fear a black quarterback. In 2011, ESPN’s Jemele Hill shared this image on Twitter:
Philadelphia Eagles legend Donovan McNabb and former ESPN anchor Jemele Hill are ready to educate viewers about the black quarterback. The two sports media figures are among those featured in the new documentary Fear the Black Quarterback, which debuts on Vice in late June.

At first glance, this may seem like a dream job. Unfortunately, here’sreversed:. Fear of a Black Quarterback, a new documentary from Vice TV, aims to prove you wrong. According to a commentary provided to TheWrap by Vice, the film focuses on McNabb’s experiences in the NFL and the hardships and discrimination faced by black players at the position. The documentary features seven former NFL quarterbacks, ESPN anchor Jemele Hill and NFL agent Lee Steinberg. TheWrap shared a statement from McNabb, who explained why he was involved in the film. I feel honored to be a part of a project that allows people to see the problems that I and many other black quarterbacks have faced on a daily basis during their career in the league. I think of Warren Moon and the others who paved the way for me. Now it’s my turn to further the conversation about race, culture and various biases in the NFL so that in the future, a black quarterback is no longer an anomaly. Donovan McNabb Fear the Black Quarterbackhas a new game on Thursday the 24th. June at 9 p.m. First. and on Vice TV.

McNabb is not the only famous former quarterback to tell his story in the bookFear the Black Quarterback. The documentary features interviews with Marlin Briscoe and Warren Moon, two of the most important black quarterbacks in league history. Briscoe, who played from 1968 to 1976, became the first black quarterback in the AFL and NFL when he started for the Bills in October 1969. In June 2021, Moon will be the only black quarterback in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The film also features Akili Smith, Quincy Carter, Sean King and Vince Young, all black quarterbacks in the 1990s and 2000s.
Some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL are black
McNabb played his last NFL game in October 2011. With the exception of Tom Brady, who still wins Super Bowl rings, the landscape of professional football has changed dramatically over the past decade. Unlike McNabb’s retirement, many of the league’s best active quarterbacks entering the 2021 regular season are black. Patrick Mahomes has been destroying defenses at a record pace since becoming the Chiefs’ starting quarterback in 2018. Elsewhere: Russell Wilson is the best quarterback in the history of the Seattle Seahawks. Both quarterbacks will enter the 2021 season with Super Bowl rings. Before his NFL future was clouded by legal issues, Deshaun Watson was developing into an elite quarterback for the Houston Texans. Additionally, three of the last six league MVP winners – Cam Newton in 2015, Mahomes in 2018 and Lamar Jackson in 2019 – are current black quarterbacks. At the end of the 2011 regular season, 13 black quarterbacks began the NFL playoffs. There have been ten in the last ten years alone. Mahomes signed a 10-year contract worth up to $503 million with the Chiefs in July 2020. In March 2021, Dak Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract with the Cowboys. The next generation of football belongs to black quarterbacks, made possible by players like Briscoe, McNabb and Moon. Like Sportscasting on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter @sportscasting19 .
