Australian Jordan Thompson, seeded No 4, emerged victorious over Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, seeded No 5, with a score of 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals of the Atlanta Open at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Friday evening.
Thompson, who is ranked No 41, is set to face the winner of the match between Chinese qualifier Juncheng Shang and Australian Max Purcell, seeded No 8, in the next round.
Prior to this match, the Australian defeated French lucky loser Harold Mayot (6-2, 7-5) in the previous round of the Atlanta Open.
Earlier in the tournament, Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 43, secured wins against Frenchman Arthur Cazaux (6-2, 7-6 (4)) and American Reilly Opelka (7-5, 7-5).
