Aaron Rodgers is (Unsurprisingly) a Big Fan of Roy Kent Fan from ‘Ted Lasso’

The Green Bay Packers quarterback was asked about his favorite football player and he quickly replied “Ted Lasso,” a reference to the character from Ted Lasso. Aaron Rodgers is not typically like this because most people would have said Joe Montana or Tom Brady (given their success), but it doesn’t seem that matters for him anymore!

Aaron Rodgers is a big fan of Roy Kent, the actor who played Ted Lasso in “Ted Lasso”.

In the past year, we’ve all learned a lot about Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers didn’t hold back in 2021, whether it was his stunning statement that he was engaged to a Hollywood celebrity, his honest opinions about the Green Bay Packers front office and general manager Brian Gutekunst, or his position on vaccines. He just revealed a previously undisclosed detail about himself. This one, though, is less shocking than some of the others. Rodgers said that the ornery, foul-mouthed Roy Kent character from the Apple TV+ mega hit Ted Lasso is one of his favorites.

From ‘Ted Lasso,’ who is Roy Kent?

Ted Lasso is an unexpected popular program on Apple TV+. A ad for NBC Sports’ Premier League coverage began with the idea of an American football coach (Jason Sudekis as Ted Lasso) travelling to England to teach a new sort of football.

According to CheatSheet.com, the sitcom, which was produced by Sudekis and Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence, won big at the 2021 Emmy Awards. The program took up the prize for Best Comedy Series. Sudekis, Brett Goldstein, and Hannah Waddingham were also honored with awards for Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, respectively.

On the program, Goldstein’s depiction of elderly midfielder Roy Kent is a fan favorite.

Roy Kent is based on Roy Keane, a former Manchester United player. Keane was a tough-tackling midfielder who led United from 1997 to 2005, a particularly prosperous time in the club’s history. On and off the field, he was known for being abrasive and irritable.

“He’s here, he’s there, he’s every-f*****-where, Roy Kent, Roy Kent,” the supporters chant. The fictitious Kent is a former Chelsea player who finished his career with Lasso’s AFC Richmond.

Ted Lasso fans like Goldstein’s Kent for his humorously profane but philosophical attitude and golden heart, as seen by his bond with his little niece, Phoebe.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is one of these Ted Lasso enthusiasts who adores Roy Kent.

Aaron Rodgers seems to have a bond with Roy Kent.

To summarize, Roy Kent is an elderly great who begins the season dissatisfied with his team, goes on profane rants, ends up dating a celebrity, and has a penchant for waxing lyrical about football and life.

Does this ring a bell with anybody you know?

Given their similarities, it’s no surprise that Rodgers recently told his pal Pat McAfee on the Pat McAfee Show that he admires and even tries to resemble Kent (in certain ways) on television.

The discussion took place on “Aaron Rodgers Tuesday,” after the Green Bay Packers quarterback’s visit on the Manning Cast with Eli and Peyton Manning on Monday night. He claimed he enjoyed both the guest appearance and the program itself. He also spoke about how he and the cantankerous fictional footballer have certain on-air characteristics:

Being a great fan of Ted Lasso, owing to you, Pat, and your support, Roy Kent is one of my favorite characters on the program. Roy Kent is unapologetically himself. When he gets on the show and discusses football with those guys, that’s how I’d — who I’d connect to as a sports analyst. You know, that razor-sharp frankness. Maybe not to the extent that he goes. Because some of his criticisms include some really colorful language. However, I like folks who are unafraid to be themselves. Not the generic, cliché-ridden fare we’ve seen on TV from time to time.

Rodgers launching profanity-laced rants against NFL players and teams on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown or FOX NFL Sunday, similar to what Roy Kent did on Sky Sports, is a tantalizing prospect.

Rodgers, on the other hand, has the 2021 NFL Playoffs to contend with before he heads to the studio.

This season, who will be able to defeat the Green Bay Packers?

In 2022, Aaron Rodgers’ top priority will be to win another Super Bowl.

This week, the potential MVP quarterback will sit out Super Wild Card Weekend. The Green Bay Packers were given a first-round bye (along with home-field advantage throughout the playoffs).

Rodgers and his team will face a difficult NFC gauntlet beginning in the Divisional Round. If they want to win Rogers’ second Lombardi Trophy, they’ll meet whomever emerges from the AFC’s top-heavy division in the Super Bowl.

Both the Arizona Cardinals and the Los Angeles Rams have questionable quarterbacks who shouldn’t be able to exploit Green Bay’s defense or outduel Rodgers in the NFC. Last season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated Rodgers and the Packers in the NFC Championship Game, but the club has been plagued by injuries this season, putting them a step behind the Packers.

That leaves whatever club wins the game between the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers. They can defeat Green Bay if one of these teams plays their best and the Packers don’t have their greatest day.

The Kansas City Chiefs, Tennessee Titans, and Buffalo Bills are all capable of defeating the Packers in the AFC. However, a Super Bowl matchup between Green Bay and any of these three teams would be difficult to predict.

Rodgers has a better chance than most to win another Super Bowl before (hopefully) taking over the booth and crushing guys like Roy Kent.
