Chinese qualifier Juncheng Shang advanced to the quarterfinals of the Atlanta Open by defeating American Ben Shelton, the top seed, with a score of 7-6 (6), 6-4 at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Friday.
Shang, ranked No 89, is set to face Australian Max Purcell, the No 8 seed, in the next round.
Prior to his victory today, the 19-year-old from China secured a win against American wildcard Andres Martin with a score of 6-1, 6-1.
