Tomas Machac advanced to the semi-finals of the Japan Open after defeating American qualifier Alex Michelsen 7-6 (2), 6-3 at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Sunday evening.
Ranked No. 34, Machac will now await the winner of the match between Frenchman Ugo Humbert and Jack Draper.
Earlier in the tournament, Tomas Machac secured victories against Australian Alexei Popyrin (6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-5) and American Tommy Paul, the No. 5 seed (2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4)).
Michelsen, ranked No. 49, triumphed over Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No. 4 seed (4-6, 6-1, 6-2) and Australian qualifier Christopher O’Connell (6-1, 6-4) in previous rounds at the Tokyo Open.
