Arthur Cazaux, a Frenchman, defeated Botic van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands 6-1, 7-6 (3) at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Sunday night to advance to the second round of the Winston-Salem Open.
Cazaux, who is ranked No 93, will next face the No 16 seed Rinky Hijikata.
