Paula Badosa, a Spaniard, defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova from Russia with a score of 6-3, 6-2 to progress to the semi-finals of the Western & Southern Open at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati on Sunday night.
Badosa, ranked No 37, is set to face American Jessica Pegula, the No 6 seed, in the next round.
In earlier rounds of the Cincy Open, Badosa conquered American wildcard Peyton Stearns (6-2, 7-5), Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 13 seed (6-3, 6-2), and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (6-4, 6-4).
Pavlyuchenkova, ranked No 28, triumphed over Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 17 seed (4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3), Dane wildcard Caroline Wozniacki (7-5, 6-4), and Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 7 seed (7-5, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
