The NFL offseason is in full swing, and there is a lot of talk about which players are going to dominate the next few years. The Heisman trophy winner and one of the most talked about quarterbacks in the league, Baker Mayfield, is a name that has been thrown around a lot recently. The Browns quarterback was the only player in the NFL to throw for more than 4,000 yards and rush for more than 1,000 in 2018, and now he’s one of the favorites to win the NFL MVP award. However, there are several other quarterbacks who have been throwing for more yards and reaching more milestones than Baker Mayfield.

Last year Baker Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy and led the Oklahoma Sooners to an undefeated season. That same season, the Cleveland Browns traded for their future 1st overall pick, Baker Mayfield. While there has been much debate about which of the top college quarterbacks, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Tom Brady, will be the best NFL quarterback in 2019, the bettors are much more confident on who will win the 2019 NFL MVP award: Baker Mayfield.

Future betting is not necessarily about choosing the team or player you think will win a trophy or prize. Instead, it’s about getting the most out of your efforts. For this reason, there are more bets on Cleveland Browns quarterback MVP Baker Mayfield than any other player in the NFL. Bettors love the higher odds on Mayfield, but at 20/1, his odds remain in the realm of possible winners. However, Mayfield is among an unusually large group of NFL players who could compete for the MVP award in 2021.

There are 12 QBs with relatively low odds of becoming NFL MVP in 2021

Those QBs were Patrick Mahomes (9/2), Lamar Jackson (7/1), Russell Wilson (10/1), Dak Prescott (15/1), Tom Brady (18/1), Kyler Murray (20/1) and Deshaun Watson (20/1). This year in Las Vegas, the race for the MVP title was even more open. There are currently a dozen QBs with 20/1 or better odds of becoming MVP. They are Mahomes (9/2), Rogers (7/1), Josh Allen, Brady, Wilson (10/1), Jackson, Murray (15/1), Mayfield, Prescott, Watson, Matthew Stafford and Justin Herbert (20/1). When you also consider that the two best finishers in the 2020 MVP voting (Rodgers and Allen) fell outside the 20/1 odds, the playing field for the upcoming season is incredibly wide.

Most Futures Betting in 2021 – Baker Mayfield MVP Betting

Baker Mayfield is currently the player most bet on at William Hill to win the MVP award, based on total dollars bet. This includes a $5,000 bet on Mayfield at +4,000 on @WilliamHillIL , which will raise $205,000. Latest opportunities, trends and more for future 2021-22 MVPs ⬇️ – William Hill US (@WilliamHillUS) 15 June 2021 Mayfield could finish in the top 12 in 2021, but bettors love the value the former Texas Tech and Oklahoma QB represents. Mayfield won the regular season MVP at 40/1 odds, but was quickly downgraded to the 20/1 odds he is currently at. Even with a lower potential payout, Browns QBs account for 12% of all MVP futures bets. Allen, Brady, Mahomes, Stafford and Herbert are all well behind Mayfield with 7% each. Even if bettors didn’t bet as much on the Bills or Rams quarterbacks as they did on Mayfield, more of them have bet on Allen and Stafford for the 2021 MVP than anyone else. These two have the best chance of winning the prize – 9% each. Herbert follows closely with 8%, while Prescott and Mayfield follow with 7% and 6% respectively.

Mayfield broke through in 2020

Higher, but still realistic, odds combined with Mayfield’s 2020 results are why bettors think the Cleveland signal-caller’s chances of winning the MVP are so high. The quarterback, who was drafted alongside Allen and Jackson in 2018, comes after a fantastic year and his first appearance in the postseason. Also in 2020, his total yards (3,563) and yards per completion (11.7) were the lowest of his career, as were his interceptions (8). Mayfield’s careful ball handling and smart, high-percentage passing made him not only a talented QB in 2020, but a winning QB as well. The Browns offense has Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunts back in 2021, who together were the most dynamic RB duo in football in 2020. Additionally, Mayfield should have his former best midfielder Odell Beckham Jr. back and healthy this season, which could significantly improve his performance. According to CBS Sports, Cleveland has the toughest schedule in the NFL for the new season. If Mayfield can beat the Dragons, who the Browns are facing this year, it will help him become MVP. Even if you see someone else (Josh Allen!) winning the NFL’s highest individual award in 2021, it doesn’t hurt to put a few bucks on Baker Mayfield’s MVP chances at 20/1 and incredibly strong support, just in case.
