Throughout the tournament, Sinner, who is ranked No. 1, also secured wins against American qualifier Alex Michelsen (6-4, 7-5), Australian Jordan Thompson (W/O), Russian Andrey Rublev (4-6, 7-5, 6-4), and German Alexander Zverev (7-6 (9), 5-7, 7-6 (4)).
In contrast, Tiafoe, ranked No. 20, triumphed over Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (6-3, 7-6 (6)), Italian Lorenzo Musetti (6-3, 6-2), Jiri Lehecka (6-4, 6-7 (10), 7-6 (5)), Pole Hubert Hurkacz (6-3 ret.), and Dane Holger Rune (4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4)) in the previous rounds of the Cincy Open.
