Cleveland Indians Fans Have Assembled a Surprising Contender for the Team’s New Name

While the Indians have taken plenty of guff for their lack of winning recently, fans of the team are still hopeful of the team’s future. One potential solution to the team’s woes is the fans’ recent suggestion to change the team’s name. But what would you name a team that could be called the “Cleveland Indians Colts”? The team’s history is full of big names that are now associated with other teams. Is that a good or bad thing? Or is there some other name that would work better?

With the Cleveland Indians set to relocate to a new stadium in downtown Cleveland this season, the organization has announced that the team will now be called the “Cleveland Indians”. However, the initial announcement did not include any details about the chosen new name. So, why not turn to the fans for ideas?

For the Cleveland Indians, the past week has been a whirlwind of name changes. The franchise had announced they were changing its name and they have since gone through at least five different options. The list of potential names includes “Buffalo Bisons”, “Brussels Indians”, “Los Indios”, “Indians North” and “Indians South”.

The Cleveland Indians need a new name, and the place on their jersey formerly occupied by Chief Wahoo may soon be occupied by the Incredible Hulk. It may be a little premature, but the Cleveland Avengers may be coming to a city near you. Thanos may or may not join them.

Cleveland Indians could be the Avengers

One of the NFL’s oldest franchises has given up the Indian image it used for decades. In recent years, teams at all levels, from high school to CFL, have changed their names. The Cleveland Indians are next, and they’ve already started making a list of real candidates. The team announced on its official website that it is in the process of narrowing down the list of nearly 1,200 name suggestions to a few finalists. After the initial list of 1,198 names, the Indians have already gone through 14 rounds of brainstorming and evaluation of options. Among those names are the Cleveland Avengers. Nothing is known yet about the suit Robert Downey Jr. will wear when he throws the first ball in 2022.

Part of the first Avengers movie was filmed in Cleveland

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has dominated pop culture since the release ofIron Manin 2008. But things didn’t really change until the Avengers movie came out in May 2012 with Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Chris Evans as Captain America. Although most of the film is set in New York City, some of the filming took place in Cleveland. The fight scene between Captain America and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in Stuttgart, Germany? Actually, they filmed it in Cleveland. Avengers brought in over $1.5 billion at the box office and forever changed the perception of summer blockbusters. That same year, the Indians achieved a 68-94 record and fired manager Manny Acta after six games of the season. Despite a 44-40 lead at halftime of the All-Star Game, Cleveland collapsed on a bad throw.

Cleveland should choose another name instead of Avengers

#Indian said 1,198 potential names were collected during the survey. The team is now narrowing down the final list and checking the name for legal purposes. – Tom Withers (@twithersAP) June 3, 2021 A public that wants the Cleveland baseball team to be called something other than the Indians will likely applaud the Avengers. However, it would be better for the franchise to choose a different name. Yes, the Avengers and Avengers movies are very popular and an important part of the cultural world. But surely the Indians could pick something more original and meaningful for Cleveland, especially considering they have nearly 1,200 selections. Over the years, there have been two options for fans, one of which is the Cleveland Spiders. In the late 1800s, the Spiders played 13 seasons as a professional baseball team. Did you know that the name Cleveland Spiders was partially inspired by the new black and gray uniform design that the then Cleveland Blues adopted in 1887? #OTD pic.twitter.com/4ihZOrVZJi – National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum âš¾ (@baseballhall) November 15, 2020 Others have also advocated that the Indians become Buckeyes, but not because of Ohio State. In fact, the Bucs were a Negro team that played from 1942 to 1950. If we were a Cleveland baseball team, we would listen to the fans and handle the story. If you want to sit back and watch the Avengers, you can tune in to TNT for the NBA playoff game. Like Sportscasting on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter @sportscasting19 .
