Nick Kyrgios is more renowned for his pranks than for his tennis abilities.
Nick Kyrgios made the correct decision, at least in the beginning. As a 17-year-old, he ascended to the top of the global junior rankings before becoming pro the following year. He was an elite level athlete in both basketball and tennis until he was in his early teens. It got to the point when Kyrgios had to make a decision. In January 2013, he explained why he chose tennis to The Sydney Morning Herald.
“I think I was about 13, 14 because you get hurt a lot in basketball, and that was going to keep me out of tennis, which I felt I was a lot better at at the time.
“So I figured I’d just give it my all, all my devotion, and see how it went, and it’s clearly paid off a lot.”

Kyrgios declared James to be the GOAT in a brief Instagram video released by the ATP Tour.
“LeBron James is a better player than Jordan. There won’t even be a debate.”
When Michael Jordan debuted in the NBA in 1984, the majority of basketball fans were familiar with his name. However, he was not a worldwide phenomenon. However, LeBron James has been scrutinized since he was in high school. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in 2002, during his senior year at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, he had already made two national magazine covers, was receiving seven-figure offers from shoe companies, and had a bodyguard.
The argument over whether LeBron James or Michael Jordan is better is almost two decades old, and there is no resolution in sight. From the moment he joined the NBA following his senior year of high school, James has been subjected to comparisons. As his list of achievements increased, so did the severity of the comparisons.
The reality is that there is no such thing as a right response. When Jordan first joined the NBA, he was the generational Julius Erving. He wasn’t simply a high-flying scorer; he was historically exceptional in every aspect of the game. To continue the comparison, James is a modern-day Magic Johnson. He can score at a high level, but he also knows how to distribute the ball. James is also a fantastic defender when he’s locked in.
Nick Kyrgios remains a basketball aficionado.
Nick Kyrgios may have taken a different route away from basketball, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t like it. According to what he told NBA Australia in March 2021, it’s a bit of an obsession.
“It is, without a doubt, my meditation. You know, I don’t even get it on the tennis court while I’m out there. I don’t think about anything else for an hour or two while I’m out playing basketball. It’s simply for pleasure, watching the ball and hearing it bounce through the net; it’s my meditation, and I feel like I don’t have a care in the world. Then, as soon as I walk off the court, I feel like the real world catches up with me.”
Basketball allows him to get away from his day job of tennis. NBA shirts, jewelry, and his Air Jordans are all part of his ATP Tour style.
Even though he thinks LeBron James is the superior player, Nick Kyrgios recognizes Michael Jordan as the GOAT of basketball shoes.
