Cowboys Insider Claims 2 Big-Time Star Players Are Likely to Be Cut This Offseason

In a recent article, insiders claim the Cowboys are thinking about cutting two of their star players in an effort to make room for younger talents. With Dez Bryant and Jason Witten no longer on the roster, fans will be looking forward to seeing who makes way for Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott this offseason.

The “cowboys receivers 2020” is a rumor that has been circulating for a while. The Cowboys are expected to release 2 big-time star players this offseason.

The Dallas Cowboys have had yet another disappointing season, and things are only going to get worse for them in the future. In 2022, the value of some of their contracts would skyrocket, necessitating difficult financial choices.

According to Above The Ceiling, Dallas is presently $21.7 million over the league-mandated salary cap. Not only do the Cowboys need to bring their payroll under the limit, but they’d also want to free up some salary space for free agency.

This Cowboys squad isn’t as talented as everyone first thought, as we showed during the Wild Card Round. It was humiliating to lose at home against Jimmy Garroppolo. The team’s lineup has to improve.

The Cowboys have a number of multi-million dollar contracts on the books.

Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has never been afraid to spend significant money to keep his players. His reckless spending habits, on the other hand, are now catching up with him.

In 2022, the Cowboys have seven players with cap hits of $15 million or more on their roster. Four of the seven players have cap hits in excess of $20 million, while one has a salary hit in excess of $30 million.

The simplest approach for Dallas to handle their financial problems this offseason is to figure out which of these players can be dismissed without penalty. This avoids the team needing to generate cap space artificially by reorganizing and betting money down the road.

Dak Prescott, the Cowboys’ starting quarterback, and crucial offensive lineman Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, and La’el Collins will not be released. These players will almost certainly be on the roster in 2022. Veterans Amari Cooper and Demarcus Lawrence, on the other hand, can’t say the same.

Amari Cooper and Demarcus Lawrence, according to a Cowboys source, will be dismissed.

This seems to be the direction things are going. This week, Stephen seems to be building the groundwork for it, and a lot of individuals involved in the choices are expecting it to happen.

Both players are still big names who won’t be out of work for long. https://t.co/QCGuArVg1i

According to Dallas Cowboys insider Bobby Belt of 105.3 The Fan, Amari Cooper and Demarcus Lawrence are the most probable cap-saving moves the Cowboys will make this offseason.

Cooper is coming off a season in which CeeDee Lamb surpassed him significantly. Lawrence only has 3.0 sacks in seven games since he was out for a long period due to injury. When considering their poor 2021 seasons, cutting any of these players makes sense.

Furthermore, eliminating these two players would almost completely fix the Cowboys’ looming cap problem. Cooper’s deal includes a “potential out,” which will save Dallas $16 million in cap space (Spotrac). Lawrence has a possible out, saving Dallas $8 million in cap space.

Simply dismissing two older veterans freed up $22 million in cap space.

Dallas must continue to pick well.

Due to their great drafting over the last two seasons, Dallas can justify these large cutbacks. CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, and Trevon Diggs are among the important contributors they’ve secured. Lamb is a better, younger version of Amari Cooper, and Parsons has shown he can fill in for Lawrence at defensive end if necessary.

If the Cowboys want to go deeper in the playoffs in the future, they’ll have to repeat their recent draft success. Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and the offensive line still have a lot of money invested in them. Building a team around them will need talented rookies on short-term contracts.

Getting rid of Cooper’s and Lawrence’s high cap numbers would be a good start, but there’s still a lot of work to be done in Dallas.
