Prescott is coming off a broken bone in his left shoulder, but he’s confident that this surgery will lead to the best season of his career. Prescott has always been underrated for how strong and durable he is, making it likely that he’ll bounce back from this injury and have another big year on the gridiron.
Prescott is under contract through 2022 and will be the Cowboys starting quarterback for years to come. Dallas has had a lot of success with Prescott’s game-managing skills, so it would make sense that they invest in his health as soon as possible. The team should have no problem putting together another playoff run if/when he returns next season.

When head coach Mike McCarthy delivered the Prescott news at the 2022 NFL Combine, fans and media members were stunned.Â
What is the significance of the surgery? Will Prescott be ready to play when the season begins?
For the time being, it seems that everything is in order, which is reason enough to predict that Prescott will have a fantastic year in 2022.

The fact that the operation was performed on the non-throwing shoulder is the most important point to remember. You shouldn’t meddle with a quarterback’s shoulder or legs. Prescott, unfortunately, has plenty of leg experience, having missed the most of 2020 due to a fractured ankle.
According to McCarthy, the shoulder operation was only a “clean-up.” Prescott has already started recuperating and working out with teammates back in Dallas since the injury was so minor.
“He’s back in the game.” McCarthy told NFL.com, “He’s been in the building.” “Actually, he was one of eight guys that underwent postseason surgery, I believe.” He needed to clean up his left shoulder, therefore it was something he had to do. So he’s working on it. He’s begun the process of resuming his participation.”
It doesn’t get much better than that in terms of injury updates. Of course, if you’re Jerry Jones, you’d like not have to operate on your franchise quarterback, particularly given Prescott’s injury history.

For the last two seasons, Prescott has been plagued by ailments.

Prescott hasn’t seen anything like full-strength in a long time. He hasn’t made any excuses, and McCarthy, it’s worth mentioning, didn’t either.
Prescott’s shoulder issue, according to McCarthy, had no affect on his performance in 2021. However, it seemed like it was bothering Prescott enough throughout the season that he thought it needed to be handled in the summer.
McCarthy said, “It’s just something he felt like he wanted to tidy up.”
Prescott has had a slew of injuries in recent seasons, including a sore shoulder. The most serious of the injuries was an ankle fracture. He got it in October of 2020, and it cost him the remainder of the election season. With Andy Dalton at the helm, the Cowboys struggled to a 6-10 record that season, and he missed all but five games.
One of the big themes of the 2021 preseason was questions about his rehabilitation, but the ankle injury was immediately overshadowed by a right shoulder strain he sustained in training camp, which forced him to miss the remainder of the preseason. Despite the shoulder injury, Prescott had a strong start to 2021, and he remained one of the league’s best quarterbacks until sustaining a right calf strain in Dallas’ Week 6 victory against the New England Patriots. He sat miss the next week’s game before returning to a drab stretch of games that saw the Cowboys go 1-3 in November.
To his credit, Prescott said after the season that his calf injury was not the cause of his poor performance. It was just…his game.
He added on The Rich Eisen Show, as quoted by the team website, “I wouldn’t say it lasted as long as people gave me the excuse of it.” “I had a moment right there in the season when I wasn’t playing my best ball, and people tried to blame it on my calf.” The calf improved. I tried all I could to help it get well.”
That’s a fractured ankle, two shoulder injuries, and a calf strain in two seasons, for those keeping count at home. Another way to look at it is that you’ve had two operations in the same amount of time.

Why this operation will benefit Prescott in the long run

If there’s a silver lining to Prescott’s surgery, it’s that it took place in February rather than August. Prescott now has seven months to completely recover, and he seems to be rehabilitating immediately, which is fantastic.
He has seven months to not only recover from his injury, but also to be in the greatest football form of his life. He’s recovered from his broken ankle for a whole season, so both shoulder issues plus the calf ailment he suffered last season should be a distant memory by the time training camp arrives.
There’s a good possibility Prescott will begin the 2022 regular season as healthy as he’s been in years, barring any further injuries this summer, which would be the worst-case situation for Dallas.
This season’s roster will be different, and he may not have the same number of attacking weapons as he had in 2021. We know he’ll have Ezekiel Elliott and CeeDee Lamb at the very least, as well as a defense that under defensive coordinator Dan Quinn should continue to be one of the best in the league.Â
The rest of the NFL should be scared of Prescott if he is totally healthy. Despite missing much of last season due to injury, he shattered Tony Romo’s regular-season touchdown record, throwing for 4,449 yards and 37 touchdowns with just 10 interceptions.
Prescott had his finest statistical year ever despite two injured shoulders, a tight calf, and coming off a devastating leg injury.
