A hip injury has put Alex De Minaur’s participation in the US Open at risk. The Australian tennis player described the injury as “unique” and is now in a race against time to recover.
“I had to withdraw from the tournament due to a hip injury. It’s a small tear in the fibrocartilage at the end that connects to the adductor,” De Minaur explained.
“I felt a loud crack during my match against Fils, and the scan confirmed the injury. There is a high risk of making it worse if I continue to play,” he added.
De Minaur further elaborated, “It’s a completely new and unique injury with very limited research available. It’s four years’ worth of research that they couldn’t give me an estimated recovery time for.”
“I’m holding onto hope and taking a wait-and-see approach. I’m resting and hoping the pain subsides, but it’s a race against the clock to get back on the court as soon as possible,” he said.
