The Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie announced earlier this month that Derek Carr, the team’s starting quarterback for the past two seasons, will be the starter again in 2016 and beyond. Carr, who has yet to put together a full season of Pro Bowl-caliber play, is the first Raiders quarterback to start each of his first three seasons in the NFL. He has the makings of a franchise quarterback, but he will have to continue to improve if he wants to bring the Raiders back to the Super Bowl.
On Wednesday, Derek Carr took to the podium for his final press conference before the Divisional round of the playoffs. The result was a wacky, yet honest display of the Raiders star quarterback’s personality. Carr is known for his massive sense of humor and is known for making more headlines than he probably should, but this press conference was the talk of Twitter.
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is either an optimist or an idiot. After seven full seasons in the NFL, it’s even possible he’s both.
In recent weeks, Carr has tried to convince Packers receiver Davante Adams, his former college teammate, to join the Raiders in 2022. Instead of a box of chocolates or a handwritten poem, the veteran quarterback opted for a new strategy.

Forget jumping on the shark to impress people. Carr is willing to go a little harder if it means throwing touchdowns to Adams again.
During a recent appearance onThe Cris Collinsworth Podcast, Carr discussed his relationship with Adams and the quarterback’s attempt to bring his former Fresno State teammate to Las Vegas. Adams, who won the Pro Bowl with the Packers, will be a free agent after the 2021 season.
While Carr told Collinsworth that Adams is focused on becoming a Packers player, the veteran quarterback talked about how he hopes to snag Adams for the Raiders.
I know how he works, and I know what it means to him. He’s focused on that and I’m focused on the Super Bowl, winning the Super Bowl; hopefully he’s there and I can beat him too. That’s the plan, then we recruit him to the dark side.
Raiders? To be at the Super Bowl? February 2022? After examining the record and using an advanced technology known as full readout, we can confirm that Carr did indeed say this.

Well, we applaud Carr for having the audacity to suggest that the Raiders will even make the playoffs this season. This is the same franchise that has played only one game (and suffered only one loss) in the postseason since the beginning of the 2003 NFL season.
Of course, stranger things have happened. However, it should be noted that Odds Shark offered +7500 odds ($100 bet and $7,600 payout) on the Raiders to win Super Bowl 56 in July 2021. Only nine teams have the worst rating.
The Raiders have talent, and the return of Carr for his eighth season as the team’s starting quarterback is a good thing. Because he’s never played in a playoff game, it’s easy to forget how good he is as a starting quarterback. Remember, this is a guy who has completed 68.8 percent of his passes for 8,157 yards, 48 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 32 starts over the past two seasons.
Either way, the Raiders were 15-17 in that span. Despite a 6-3 start, the Raiders were a flop and finished last season with an 8-8 record. At best, this is a team that will spend most of the 2021 season on the injured list when it comes to the postseason. In the first three seasons of Jon Gruden’s tenure with the Raiders, there was no indication that this team would be able to compete for the Super Bowl.
But Carr sets high goals for himself and his teammates, so you can’t blame him. That’s better than giving away the $20 million he’s earning this season every Sunday 70%.
The Aaron Rodgers situation is the biggest saga in Green Bay right now. Adams’ future with the Packers is getting more and more interesting, though.
The likelihood of the Packers trading Adams in the next few months is slim, unless the team finds itself in a tricky situation before the deadline and another team wants to cede a high draft pick. But if Adams doesn’t sign with the Packers before the free agent contract begins, there are three teams most likely to be considered for his next stop.
- Sign with the Packers or someone offering more money. It’s simple.
- Follow Rodgers to where he plays as the Packers traded their star quarterback.
- Go to the Raiders and find Derek Carr.
The answer to that scenario could well depend on where Rodgers will play – and that is if he is active at all. Now that Rodgers is retired and hosting Jeopardy!, we shouldn’t be surprised if Adams trades a Lambeau jump for a Raider Nation hug, especially if Carr and his buddies miss the playoffs again.
The 2022 season will be the third for the Raiders at Allegiant Stadium, and they need to show the fans in Las Vegas that they are determined to win. If Adams and Carr get back together, that will probably play a big role.
