Hugo Gaston, a French player, advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Open by defeating Mariano Navone from Argentina, the No 7 seed, with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4) at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp on Wednesday.
Gaston, who is ranked No 77, will now face the winner of the match between Australian Alex De Minaur, the top seed, and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena.
Prior to this victory, Gaston won against Russian qualifier Alexey Vatutin with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
In the previous round of the Antwerp Open, Navone, ranked No 43, defeated Brazilian Thiago Monteiro by a score of 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (6).
