Final Fantasy is one of the most beloved game series of all time. Each fantasy world has its own unique setting, narrative, and characters. Fortunately, all of these beloved worlds have been beautifully remade on the PlayStation 4, with the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series.
In an age of high-definition gaming, it may come as a surprise to learn that six of the most celebrated games in Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy series have never made it to the digital domain—until now.
It’s the year 20XX and time has come to say goodbye to the Final Fantasy series. After all, six Final Fantasy games were remade into games for the PSP, which later became the PSP-3000. A remake of Final Fantasy IX was made on the PSP, and released in 2006. And then in 2007, a remake of Final Fantasy VII was released for the PSP. It showed that the Final Fantasy series could be revisited time after time, and yet, it still held its own.
Square Enix is publishing the first sixFinal Fantasy games on Steam and mobile devices in theFinal Fantasy Pixel Remaster series. Each game will be released separately, but Square Enix has not yet announced a price or release date for the games. Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster looks like a mix of the original pixel art and the updated mobile versions, but thankfully without the added glitz and glamour typical of the mobile versions.. Square Enix also didn’t give any other details about the remasters at this time, such as quality of life updates, add-ons, whether they will be released as a bundle, or if we will see them on Nintendo Switch. Either way, this is part of Square Enix’s desire to make its old games discoverable to a wider audience. This is how Square Enix described it in the official announcement: The six original Final Fantasy games that inspired a generation of RPG fans come back to life in the pixelated Final Fantasy remaster series. Fans and newcomers alike are invited to immerse themselves in six masterpieces that span the ages with unique stories of epic adventure. The company will release popular games, fromFinal Fantasy ItoFinal Fantasy VI, separately for Steam and mobile platforms. Square has stated that more information will be announced at a later date, so stay tuned for more news on the remastered series as it becomes available. For fans of the long-running franchise, it’s a magical time right now.
