After a hard-fought match, Spanish player Pedro Martinez advanced to the quarterfinals of the Hamburg Open by defeating French qualifier Ugo Blanchet 6-4, 0-6, 7-5 at the Rothenbaum Tennis Center on Wednesday.
Martinez, who is currently ranked No 49, will face off against the No 4 seed, Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, in the next round.
Prior to his win against Blanchet, Martinez had also defeated Italian Matteo Arnaldi, the No 6 seed, with a score of 7-6 (4), 6-1.
In the previous round of the tournament, Blanchet, ranked No 161, had emerged victorious against Australian player Alexei Popyrin with a score of 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2.
