Zhizhen Zhang, the No 6 seed, defeated wildcard Yunchaokete Bu 7-6 (3), 6-4 to advance to the final of the Hangzhou Open at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center on Monday afternoon.
Zhang, ranked No 43, will now face Croatian wildcard Marin Cilic in the final.
Earlier in the tournament, Zhizhen Zhang secured victories against Kazakh qualifier Denis Yevseyev (6-2, 1-6, 6-4), Italian Mattia Bellucci (6-3, 6-0), and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena (6-3, 6-3).
Yunchaokete Bu, ranked No 96, also had impressive wins over Frenchman Hugo Gaston (7-5, 6-3), Russian Karen Khachanov, the second seed (7-6 (7), 4-6, 6-3), and Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin (6-4, 6-2) in earlier rounds of the tournament.
