Have the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors Ever Met in the NBA Finals? | flipsidesports.net

The Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors are two of the most dominant teams in all of sports. The two powerhouses have met a total of six times with both achieving victory five times. Despite many betting odds favoring one team over another, this weekend’s showdown is set to be an exciting finale for what has been a dramatic season

The “who won the nba finals in 1965” is a question that has been asked for decades. The Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors have never met in the NBA Finals, but there was one time when they would have faced off. That’s because the Philadelphia Warriors beat the Washington Capitols to win their first ever NBA Championship on June 6th, 1964.

The Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors are two of just four NBA teams who have won at least six titles. Of course, the Celtics and Lakers are tied for the most championships with 17 each, but the Warriors have dominated the recent decade, winning four times since 2015.

We’re one victory away from a historic NBA Finals showdown between the two heavyweights, so will this be the first time they meet in the championship series?

In the NBA Finals, the Celtics and Warriors have met once.

Although the Celtics and Warriors are two of the most successful teams in NBA history, they have only played once in the NBA Finals. In 1964, Wilt Chamberlain and the San Francisco Warriors squared off against Bill Russell and the Boston Celtics, with Boston winning in five games for their sixth consecutive championship.

The following is how the games went down:

Celtics 108, Warriors 96 in Game 1

In Game 1, the Celtics had a pretty stress-free victory. Boston went into halftime with a 57-39 advantage and cruised to a 12-point win in the end. Chamberlain was restricted to 22 points on 9-of-20 shooting, while Sam Jones and John Havlicek each scored 28 points to help the Celtics take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Celtics 124, Warriors 101 in Game 2.

For the Warriors, Chamberlain came back in Game 2 with 32 points and 25 rebounds, but the Celtics were once again too much to handle on offense. Boston outscored the Warriors by 23 points, shooting 47.5 percent from the floor and scoring a series-high 124 points. Jones led the Celtics in scoring once again, scoring 31 points on 12-of-18 shooting.

Warriors 115, Celtics 91 in Game 3

After losing the first two games of the series by large scores, San Francisco came back to win Game 3 behind Chamberlain’s 35 points and 25 rebounds. The Warriors hit 53.4 percent from the floor as a team and restricted Jones to just six points in a 24-point win. However, it would be their only victory in the Finals.

Celtics 98, Warriors 95 in Game 4

Finally, a game that was quite close. The Celtics led by 12 points entering the fourth quarter of Game 4, but the Warriors rallied and came close to tying the series at 2-2. With 25 points and 11 rebounds, Tom Heinsohn was the game’s hero, but Chamberlain’s 27 points and 38 rebounds (yep, 38) weren’t enough in the end.

Celtics 105, Warriors 99 in Game 5

In Game 5, the Warriors put up a valiant fight, but the Celtics’ balanced offensive approach was enough to overcome Chamberlain’s 30 points and 27 rebounds. Six Boston players scored in double figures, led by Jones’ 18 points.
