‘He Can’t Make No More Lemonade’

The first thing of note about this story is the name of the blog itself: it’s called “flipsidesports”, which originally was a joke invented by sports writer and ex-Gator football player, Paul Perdichizzi. The joke was about how the sports world can be very black and white when it comes to certain topics, and how they overlook the gray areas. He refuses to do this, and when he looks at the sports world through the prism of his own experience, often comes to conclusions that contradict conventional wisdom.

While the Miami Heat was in the process of blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Cavs last night, LeBron James said something that could be perceived as an insult towards his teammates. “He can’t make no more lemonade,” James said on the TNT broadcast, after the third quarter. That was a reference to the popular phrase “You can’t make any more lemonade out of lemons”. James is correct in saying that it’s impossible to repeat the performance of the Heat’s offense against the Cavs, which had been the best in the league throughout the first three games of the series. But he may have been referring to the fact that the Heat’s offense didn’t come close to the level it had during its 95-88

In 2012, the Cleveland Cavaliers made the NBA Finals. The following year, they were bounced in the first round by the Wizards. If you’re a Cavaliers fan, you can believe that “Cleveland is cursed” if you want. But if you’re a fan of the Washington Wizards, you know what happened in the Finals.  In other words, the 2012 Cavaliers aren’t cursed.

The NBA summer has here, and it’s obvious what will be the main storyline: Will the Portland Trail Blazers move Damian Lillard?

There has been a lot of trade talk around Lillard, who has never had a genuine chance to make the NBA Finals with Portland in his career, but he has yet to demand a move, so his future remains uncertain.

However, one NBA veteran believes it is past time for Lillard to depart the Blazers.

Paul Pierce is that legend.

With the Blazers, Damian Lillard has been the subject of trade rumors.

The Trail Blazers have made eight consecutive playoff appearances under Lillard’s leadership, but they have fallen in the first round in five of those seasons, including the last two. As a result of their most recent defeat, there has been a lot of conjecture about Lillard’s future.

Despite the fact that Lillard is under contract with the Blazers through 2023-24 with a player option for the 2024-25 season, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports claimed in June that the Blazers’ failure to construct a championship challenger may force him to leave.

There was a rumor that Lillard might ask the Blazers for a trade, but he eventually denied it.

“I’m not sure what I’m going to do right now. What I can tell is that my goals and heart have always been focused on playing with the Trail Blazers for the rest of my career,” Lillard told ESPN on July 16. “However, I believe that in the long run, you want to win it all. And I want to do it all while wearing a Trail Blazers jersey. But we must all make progress in that direction.”

However, no trade speculation has been halted as a result of these remarks.

Paul Pierce believes that Dame should depart the Blazers.

Pierce just featured on Matt Barnes’ What’s Burnin’ on Showtime. Barnes likened Dame’s position to Pierce’s with the Boston Celtics when discussing Lillard and the Blazers. Some felt Pierce should have left Boston to have a better chance of winning somewhere, thus Barnes compared Dame’s situation to Pierce’s with the Celtics.

Pierce, on the other hand, decided to remain in Boston and helped the Celtics win a championship, so he doesn’t believe their circumstances are comparable.

On the July 20 edition, he stated, “When I look around the league, what Dame needs isn’t out there.” “… There isn’t another unhappy superstar you can bring over to Dame and say, “Alright, if we add this component, this would make us in championship contention.” So, I believe the best course of action for Dame is for him to leave.”

Pierce went on to say that Lillard has always been faithful, but the Blazers haven’t given him chances to win championships, thus he compares Dame’s position to Kevin Garnett’s.

Garnett spent 12 seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves before joining Pierce and Ray Allen in Boston. Lillard, on the other hand, has spent nine seasons with the Blazers.

He added, “KG was doing all he could for Minnesota, and it just came to the point where he couldn’t do any more.” “It was his time to go. I believe Dame’s time has come to an end. They squeezed every last drop of lemon juice from him; he can’t produce any more lemonade, dude. For years, he’s been producing too much lemonade.”

What clubs can Damian Lillard be traded to if he wants to leave the Blazers?

As of right now, it doesn’t seem like Lillard is 100% committed to leaving Portland, but if he is, where would the Blazers trade him?

Many fans and analysts consider clubs that would offer Lillard the greatest opportunity to win championships while discussing possible destinations. As a result, clubs such since the Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, and Philadelphia 76ers are often mentioned, as they are all great teams with highly movable assets.

Lillard, on the other hand, does not have a no-trade clause, meaning the Blazers may move him to anybody, even failing clubs. The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor claimed that the Knicks, Heat, and Sixers will all pursue Lillard vigorously, but he also included the Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets.

If the Blazers wanted to express their gratitude to Lillard, they wouldn’t trade him to Sacramento or Houston. However, they may choose to do what is best for their future, which is to accept the best offer.

Nobody knows what will happen with Lillard, but the Knicks, Heat, 76ers, Warriors, Kings, and Rockets seem to be the most probable destinations if he is dealt. Prepare your popcorn, because this is going to be a great tale to watch this offseason.

Basketball Reference provided the statistics.

This season, the Chargers are scheduled to play 8 home games at the StubHub Center. For a team that has made the playoffs every year since they joined the league in 1967, that doesn’t sound so bad. But just because you’re playing an opponent in a “home” stadium, doesn’t mean you’re going to win. In fact, you’re more likely to lose..
