For many people, the idea of wearing a pair of shoes for free is more than just an offer to save some money. It’s about getting out and trying something new and exciting that you might not normally do — like learning how to skateboard or working on your swing at the driving range.

Larry Bird is a well-known figure in the had no concept what it was like to be affluent beyond his wildest fantasies as a boy growing up in French Lick, Indiana. The Boston Celtics hero was reared in a humble home, so he learned to appreciate the basic things in life at a young age.
So, even after achieving fame and riches as a Celtics great, the money never altered who Bird was at his core.

Bird is regarded as one of the best NBA players of all time, as well as one of the most successful retired players. Bird, who is 64 years old, has amassed a $75 million net worth as a result of his multiple investments and sponsorships.
But “Larry Legend” wasn’t always the wealthy and well-known Hall of Famer he is today. Bird and his family in French Lick, Indiana, never had much money to spend on anything other than food and clothing as children. Despite this, Bird never grumbled throughout his youth, and he certainly didn’t whine when he received his first NBA paycheck.
Bird earned a bit more than $24 million in salary alone over his 13 seasons with the Celtics. In each of his first five years with the club, he earned just $650,000, but by the conclusion of his career, he had been the highest-paid player in basketball, earning $7 million in the 1991-92 season.
Even after becoming wealthy, Larry Bird was uninterested in extravagant expenditures.
When Bird began earning millions of dollars for merely playing basketball, his life altered dramatically. He never imagined he’d become as wealthy and well-known as he had by the 1980s, but “The Hick from French Lick” remained true to himself.
Bird stated to Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe why he never spent his money on flashy automobiles or designer outfits during his playing days.
I don’t need someone to bolster my ego. When I return back to Boston, all I want to do is eat, pay my bills, and leave. I don’t have such issues in French Lick, which is why I return there. It’s the same with high-end automobiles, such as Mercedes. I can’t see spending $50,000 or $60,000 on a vehicle when our home was only worth $10,000 when I was a kid. I’m sorry, but I’m not buying it. Clothing, on the other hand, has never piqued my interest. I’ve never been a big fan of them. I always dressed what made me feel good.
If I can acquire anything for free, I’ll wear it.
Ladies and gentlemen, these are the words of one of the wealthiest and most well-known celebrities of the 1980s.
I was on the verge of switching careers.
Bird is unquestionably one of the best basketball players of all time, yet after high school, he nearly selected a very other professional path: working as a construction worker.
Bird told the Boston Globe, “I figured I’d end up becoming a construction worker, pouring concrete.” “I wasn’t very brilliant in shop in school, but I’d worked in the construction industry.” In basketball, all I wanted to do was be the greatest player on my high school squad.”
It’s reasonable to assume he did it with relative ease.
