It’s been a tough year for Jrue Holiday. The Pelicans traded him away to the Cleveland Cavaliers at the trade deadline, and after playing a key role in the Cavs’ success, he was sent packing in the biggest trade of the season. The Pelicans now face an uncertain future, and Holiday has yet to find a new home.

I have to admit I was skeptical that giving up $5 million dollars for the chance of the best possible season would be a good reason. There is always that chance that he would have been a shell of his former self, but I’m convinced it was the right choice. Jrue Holiday is a freak athlete, and doesn’t need to rely on athleticism alone to be effective. As he progressed through his career, his game became more about his teammates and his passing. His ceiling is sky high, and the $5 million can help him reach it.

As the Philadelphia 76ers continue to rebuild their roster, many of their players have been traded or released. This included Jrue Holiday, who was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Ersan Ilyasova and a 2020 second round pick. When talking to the media about the trade, Holiday expressed how excited he was to be joining a new team, and mentioned how he was planning to spend the rest of the summer with his family before taking part in a commercial for the NBA.

Milwaukee Bucks point guard Jrue Holiday was one of the most sought after players in the NBA last year, not only because of his play on the court, but also because of his performance off the court.

Last year, he and his wife Lauren donated $5 million of his NBA salary to support organizations connected to the Black Lives Matter movement in three different cities: Los Angeles, New Orleans and Indianapolis.

Fund for festivals and social justice

The NBA and the WNBA have had a major impact on the Black Lives Matter movement, especially after the murder of George Floyd by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was recently sentenced to 22.5 years in prison for second-degree manslaughter, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Last year, Jru and Lauren Holiday decided to use much of the $5.3 million salary Jru earned during his time in the NBA to establish the Jru and Lauren Holiday Social Justice Impact Fund.

The party donated money to black-owned businesses, non-profits and other organizations that impact black and brown communities.

The vacationers explained in their statement why this was important to them.

When we decided to create this foundation, it was at the turning point of two pandemics – the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on the black community and economy, and the equally devastating murders of George Floyd and many other unarmed black men – that led to an overwhelming sense of powerlessness, they said in a joint statement.

We are fortunate to be able to help people through the JLH Foundation and we will continue this work and make as big an impact as possible.

Influence of LeBron James and other basketball superstars

The celebrations may have been influenced by other stars in the league, such as. B. of LeBron James, who has spoken out about the Black Lives Matter movement, sometimes even stirring controversy.

Last year, after Jacob Blake was killed by a police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin, NBA players, led by Holliday’s current team, walked off the court and staged a strike for their playoff games.

Some thought the players would not return to continue the playoffs because of the discussions and protests going on across the country at the time.

Miami Heat and Boston Celtics players also walked off the field earlier this year after shooter Blake was not charged in the case.

WNBA Impact

Even before the NBA and its players got involved in social justice issues, the WNBA was getting attention.

The WNBA used its platform to speak out against the death of Breonna Taylor, who was shot by police in her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky, and participated in the special election held in Georgia in January.

As long as they have a platform, players like Jrue Holiday, LeBron James and others will continue to speak out against injustice and help build their communities.

With the trade of Chris Paul, they have to decide whether to go forward with Patrick Beverley, who is signed for next season, or to pick up a veteran point guard. The Rockets don’t have to choose between the two. They can now sign Jrue Holiday to a one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum of $2.3 million..
