The Lakers failed to land Jerami Grant from the Philadelphia 76ers, so they decided to trade for Talen Horton-Tucker. He’s a shooter and not too good of an athlete, but he is capable of playing both forward positions. The reasoning behind this move is unclear; there are rumors that LeBron James wanted another veteran on his team who could help in their title run thus far.

The “lakers rumors” is that the Lakers may need to reverse their thinking on Talen Horton-Tucker in order to land Jerami Grant, who will bolster LeBron James’ supporting cast.

Lakers May Need to Reverse Thinking on Talen Horton-Tucker to Land Jerami Grant, Bolster LeBron James' Supporting Cast

The Los Angeles Lakers have failed to look the part after a productive summer that fueled considerable championship expectation. Despite LeBron James continuing to play at a high level, the Lakers are struggling in the Western Conference rankings. All of this might lead to the organization changing its mind about Talen Horton-Tucker in order to acquire Detroit Pistons guard Jerami Grant.

The domination of LeBron James cannot hide the Lakers’ flaws.

The Lakers started the 2021-22 season with high hopes of winning the NBA championship.

Los Angeles, on the other hand, hasn’t looked like a title contender, particularly after a five-game losing streak reduced them to 16-18. Aside from LeBron James’ brilliance, which has him averaging a team-high 27.4 points per game, the club has struggled to maintain consistency on both sides of the court.

With Anthony Davis slated to miss a month due to an MCL injury in his left knee, the team’s problems have just gotten worse. All of these variables might force the Lakers to look for a trade partner.

To get Jerami Grant and improve LeBron James’ supporting cast, the Lakers may have to change their minds about Talen Horton-Tucker.

Due to the Lakers’ continuous troubles, trade rumors have surfaced as a possible solution.

Jerami Grant of the Pistons has been mentioned as a possible target. Longtime ESPN NBA analyst Brian Windhorst recently said on The Brian Windhorst & Hoop Collective podcast that the Lakers had a viable trade package to snag the 27-year-old.

Windhorst told Lakers Daily, “Here’s an example of an alternative.” “So, the Lakers have reportedly shown interest in Jerami Grant, and I believe that the Pistons, who are in the midst of a rebuild and won’t be going anywhere this season… I believe people will pay attention to Jeremi Grant.

“So, if you could acquire a guy like Jerami Grant, it would probably take [Talen] Horton-Tucker, maybe that ’27 first, and perhaps Kendrick Nunn to make the money work.” Is it the sort of deal you’d make if you were the Lakers, Bobby, because there’s a player who can assist you more?”

Due of Talen Horton-potential, Tucker’s the Lakers have been hesitant to deal him in recent years. As a two-way player, the 21-year-old has showed glimpses of potential. His length allows him to defend many spots and restrict passing lanes defensively. It’s also helped him get to the hoop efficiently off the dribble, and he’s a good ball-handler with good passing and court vision.

Several organizations are allegedly interested in signing him. Last season, the Lakers thwarted a Kyle Lowry deal by keeping Horton-Tucker off the table. Los Angeles chose to keep him on a three-year, $30.7 million contract.

The Lakers could equal Grant’s $20 million compensation by combining Horton-$9.5 Tucker’s million salary with Kendrick Nunn’s $5 million. The Lakers’ willingness to trade with the third-year guard, who has a bright future ahead of him, might be the deciding factor.

Horton-Tucker might be on the move shortly if the franchise wants to make the most of James’ remaining NBA championship window.

With their present squad, the Lakers may choose to play the long game.

The Lakers’ struggles have been exacerbated by injuries and COVID-19-related concerns, but they’ve reached a point where they may have to look in the mirror.

Los Angeles has a strong roster with lots of flexibility when everyone is healthy. They haven’t got the chance to put it to use yet.

The Lakers want to take advantage of the fact that James is still producing at a high level. Davis’ absence, along with the COVID-19 concerns, hasn’t helped the team’s lack of togetherness on the court. It’s particularly true on defense, as the team ranks 27th in the country, allowing 112.3 points per game.

Whatever the Lakers do, James will continue to carry the majority of the weight. Meanwhile, there’s still optimism that Russell Westbrook can establish himself as the third option, and that the roster’s flexibility may be a game-changer.

Time will tell whether the Lakers can ever achieve that goal, but if they continue to struggle, anticipate adjustments.
