The Los Angeles Lakers are looking high and low for their next head coach, leaving no stone unturned and straining all of their resources (insert any adjective here).
They are not, however, conferring with LeBron James.
What’s going on here?
OK, so it’s only a rumor, but the Lakers are allegedly keeping The King (their superstar and one of the greatest players in the world) in the dark about their coaching search.
And it all sounds like a calamity waiting to happen.

As soon as the season finished, Frank Vogel became the Lakers’ scapegoat. Following a disappointing 2021-22 season in which the Lakers failed to qualify for the NBA Play-In Tournament, the organization fired the coach who led the team to a championship in 2020.
It’s now on the lookout for a successor, and an old acquaintance is reportedly assisting in the quest. Phil Jackson, who led Los Angeles to five championships between 2000 and 2010, is said to be helping the club while it searches for a new head coach.
The choice to include Jackson is intriguing, particularly given he and LeBron James don’t have a good relationship. In 2016, Jackson used the term “posse” to describe James’ associates, which has racist connotations.
However, given the Lakers’ alleged withholding of information from LeBron, the Zen Master’s relationship with the team is even more perplexing.
On the May 4 edition of Keyshawn, JWill, and Max, former NBA player and current ESPN pundit Jay Williams remarked, “I have gotten word from folks inside the organization that his camp has no clue what is going on.” “I have no idea what’s going on.” So, you’re telling me that a player in the running for greatest player in the world has no knowledge what’s going on in his camp? While Phil Jackson… consults with the Lakers organization to determine who will be the next head coach?”
The whole scenario seems to be a shambles. But, regardless of whether James has a say, who will lead the Lakers next season?
In 2022-23, who will be the Lakers’ head coach?
The Lakers will make a strong push for former Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson if they want to keep LeBron James satisfied.
According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, James loves the notion of Jackson — who has also been connected to the Sacramento Kings’ job — coaching in Los Angeles. Before returning to ESPN, Jackson had a lot of success in the Bay, helping Golden State improve every season and reach the playoffs in two of the three years he was there. He was also the Splash Brothers’ brains behind the scenes.
Jackson, on the other hand, isn’t the only one who has been connected to the team. Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder, Michigan’s Juwan Howard, and Milwaukee Bucks assistant Darvin Ham are among the other finalists.
There doesn’t seem to be a leader just yet, but the outcome might have a significant impact on LeBron’s future with the Purple and Gold.
