In the early 1990s, the NBA was in need of some new merchandising. They created a contest called the “Space Jam” contest, which allowed the public to vote for which new team they wanted to see on the big screen. The winning team was the Chicago Bulls, and most fans wanted to see their star Michael Jordan participate in the movie.

Michael Jordan is set to star in his first big screen film in a decade when he stars in the sequel to 1996’s Space Jam, which revitalized the man’s reputation as a basketball player.

Michael Jordan is not only one of the NBA’s best players, but he’s also one of the most important cultural icons of the last 20 years. His ability to bring in new fans and keep old ones entertained raised the game of basketball beyond the traditional NBA fan base. There are a variety of items connected to Michael Jordan on the market that are sure to appeal to collectors and fans alike. One such item is the “Space Jam” pair of game-used Jordan shoes, which is expected to fetch a price of $150,000-$200,000 when it hits auction later this month.

The premiere of LeBron James’ Space Jam: A New Legacy has reignited interest in Michael Jordan’s original film from 25 years ago. That isn’t only confined to the computer screen. At auction, a pair of legendary Air Jordans are expected to fetch a huge sum.

The sneakers were featured in the blockbuster film Space Jam, which was released in 1996. They made their debut in 1995, when Jordan returned to the NBA. While some are using the new film as an opportunity to take the Michael Jordan vs. LeBron James debate in an unexpected direction, Sotheby’s Auctions is using the increased excitement to entice prospective buyers.

Michael Jordan returned to the NBA in March 1995 after an 18-month hiatus. His comeback to the Chicago Bulls resulted in a postseason appearance. Jordan, on the other hand, was clearly in need of some rust removal. Jordan shot a career-low 41.1 percent from the field in 17 regular-season games following his comeback, averaging 26.9 points per game. In the playoffs, he improved dramatically, averaging 31.5 points per game on 48.4% shooting.

Jordan wore a pair of black patent-leather high tops in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference playoffs against the Orlando Magic. The shoe was the Air Jordan XI “Space Jam,” which he wore in the film as well.

Jordan and the Bulls were defeated in their 1995 series versus Orlando. But it was also the Bulls’ last postseason series under Jordan’s leadership.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the sneakers up for sale is that they are in excellent condition and were custom-made to Michael Jordan’s specifications.

The Air Jordan XIs, which were made in China, were never worn.

The shoes up for sale, according to Sotheby’s, are “player sample” or “player exclusive” sneakers. Michael Jordan autographed the size-13 sneakers, which were made in Taiwan in 1995. They come in a velvet-lined handmade wood box.

Jordan unveiled the Air Jordan XI “Space Jam” sneakers in 1995, but they didn’t go on sale until 2000. The Space Jam film was inspired by a Super Bowl ad starring His Airness and Bugs Bunny in January 1992. Jordan’s agent, David Falk, believed the Jordan-Bugs collaboration might be made into a full picture.

Falk successfully read the marketing crystal ball with a $27 million opening weekend. It is the highest-grossing basketball film of all time, with a domestic box office take of $90.4 million. White Men Can’t Jump, released in 1992, had previously held the record.

The auction will run through July 26. The Air Jordan XIs are expected to retail for between $150,000 and $200,000. If carrots are your thing, that will get you a lot of them.

Michael Jordan and the legendary Air Jordan brand have a long and illustrious history.

Michael Jordan’s profitable relationship with Nike started during his freshman season. The Air Jordan I “Notorious” sneaker, released in 1985, was only a taste of what was to come. Air Jordan I, which came in red and white with black accent, established a pattern for future editions.

According to The Cardboard Connection, there have been 35 Air Jordan models released in the last 36 years. This figure excludes vintage variants and colors. The Air Jordan 35 was the most recent release in 2020. (thank you, Nike, for abandoning the Roman numeral thing).

Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics started wearing the Air Jordan 36 throughout the playoffs. According to Footwear News, the Air Jordan 36 “Tatum” will be available for purchase on July 24.

Michael Jordan continues to show that it had to be the shoes, despite the fact that it has been eighteen years since he last played a game.
