Mike McCarthy Provides a Very Encouraging Update on Dak Prescott While Michael Gallup Makes a Bold Statement About the Dallas Cowboys Offense

It seems like an eternity ago that the Cowboys were saying that they were fully confident that Prescott would be their franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future. The team made the decision to bring in competition that they thought would push Prescott and the team to reach their full potential.

The Cowboys have a talent problem on offense. They’re relying too much on Dak Prescott, who is now in his fourth season and has shown no signs of helping to lead the offense to being good enough to consistently win games. Meanwhile, they’ve also relied too much on Ezekiel Elliott and AMPLE on the offensive line to keep the defense from getting into the backfield. This has led to the Cowboys struggling to move the ball consistently and consistently getting worse.

The Cowboys won a stunning victory last weekend over the Lions, leaving them with a 2-1 record on the season. It was an impressive turnaround for the team, who had opened the season with a 1-2 record and were thought to be in danger of missing the playoffs. Since then, however, they have won three straight games and have rattled off twenty-one points in those games. The performance has been fueled by the stellar play of rookie quarterback Dak Prescott, who has completed seventy percent of his passes for 690 yards with six touchdowns and one interception.

The Dallas Cowboys began the 2020 NFL season with high expectations. After finishing 8-8 and missing the 2019 postseason, Jerry Jones replaced Jason Garrett with longtime Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy and purged the rest of the coaching staff, minus offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Many expected the Cowboys to win the ugly NFC East in 2020, but a series of injuries, including Dak Prescott’s horrific ankle injury and the worst defense in franchise history, led to an extremely disappointing 6-10 finish. So what’s next for the Cowboys in 2021? Prescott, armed with a new $160 million contract, appears to be healthy again (at least for the most part), and Dallas made sure everyone knew it by highlighting his ankle in a video of Dak participating in OTAs late last week. McCarthy also gave a very encouraging update Tuesday morning on the status of his primary QB, saying that Prescott should be a full participant in training camp. The two-time Pro Bowler should be 100 percent ready for Week 1, as should the rest of Dallas’ offense, which set a record pace last season before Prescott dropped out, and according to wide receiver Michael Gallup, that portends nothing short of trouble for the entire NFL. But the offense clearly wasn’t a problem in Dallas in 2020, and even if Dak and his companions put up big numbers in 2021, they won’t win games if the defense doesn’t improve.

Mike McCarthy gave very encouraging information about Duck Prescott

While most NFL teams have changed their approach to OTAs, the Dallas Cowboys went all out when they started late last week. That means they have one less practice than usual, but McCarthy says that’s only because the team’s training camp starts earlier, with Dallas playing in the Hall of Fame Game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sure, they risk injury, but that seems to be offset by a desire to fix all the problems of last year’s team. According to McCarthyPrescott has missed nothing of what was planned for him during OTAs and the offseason in general. Although he did not participate in the 11-on-11 workout scheduled from the start, he felt comfortable during practice, and McCarthy expects Dak to be a full participant in training camp, which is encouraging news for Dallas fans.

Michael Gallup doesn’t see anyone stopping the Dallas Cowboys’ offense

Lamb, but still caught 59 passes for 843 yards and five touchdowns, said Prescott is looking great so far. The quarterback says if Dak stays healthy, the sky is the limit for a Cowboys offense that was ranked No. 1 in 2019 and No. 1 in 2020 before Prescott was injured (h/t NFL.com). We’re out of here. It’s just the OTA. I think we’re going to explode. We can do what we have to do on the ground and just kill. I don’t see who can stop us. Dak looks like the old Dak, ready to go, ready to be a leader. It just has this little grill. Every time you see him, you want to make sure you’re doing the right thing for him. Michael Gallup on Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys offense Only time will tell if Prescott, Gallup, and the Cowboys offense can function as they used to. On the other hand, it’s no secret that the offense isn’t a problem in Big D.

Offense is clearly not a problem for the Cowboys

. While Prescott’s return is certainly a good thing for Gallup and the Cowboys’ offense, scoring is obviously out of the question. That’s how many points the defense will give away. In 2020, with Mike Nolan as defensive coordinator, Dallas allowed a franchise-record 473 field goals, the fifth most in the NFL, behind only the Lions, Jaguars, Raiders and Vikings. Even when Dak and company were scoring 31.5 points per game in the four full games he played, the Cowboys were 1-3, and the only reason they got that one win was because the Falcons seemed to forget the rules of the game at the offensive position. To his credit, Jerry Jones (what a strange way to start an offer) acted quickly after the season, firing Nolan and replacing him with Dan Quinn, and using the Cowboys’ first six draft picks for defensive players. Quinn has an advantage that wasn’t there a year ago, as he has an entire season to implement a new defensive scheme. But like Dak and the offense, Dallas fans will have to wait and see how it all plays out in the coming months. The Dallas Cowboys, once again the favorites in the NFC East, open the 2021 regular season with a high-stakes meeting with Tom Brady and the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday the 9th. Prescott has shown he is a capable quarterback and is certainly the best option for the Cowboys moving forward until they can find a better option. The question now is, will he be benched?.
