Gael “La Monf” Monfils emerged victorious against Alexander “The Bublik Enemy” Bublik with a 3-1 win in the final of UTS New York. He made a stunning comeback to win 10-20, 17-13, 17-14, 15-14 on Friday at Forrest Hills Stadium in New York.
Despite losing the first quarter, Monfils revealed that he was highly motivated for this match.
Monfils faced tough competition as Bublik displayed exceptional tennis skills, pushing the Frenchman to his limits, with the Kazakh player just three points away from victory.
“I’m really happy, especially to win here in New York,” La Monf expressed his joy after the match.
“I am [proud]. I’m in a good form, I show great tennis these two days, I feel ready for New York next week.”
“I’ve been playing great. Now, I just show again. I can’t wait for Monday.”
With this victory, Monfils secures a spot in the year-end final in London this December.
“London was really cool last year, so I’m super happy that I can defend my chance there.”
