The New York Jets boast a plethora of young players and first-year players on offense and defense. Their roster is tied for the youngest in the NFL, and includes at least eight rookies and 12 first-year players. Let’s take a closer look at some of those young faces:

The New York Jets are the youngest team in the NFL, with an average age of 23.5 years old. They have nine rookies, including at least eight who are projected to receive significant playing time.

The New York Jets are one of the most exciting teams to watch this football season, largely due to the fact that they have the most rookie players on the field by a margin of at least 25 percent. The Jets were able to attract 12 rookies this year, and at least 8 of them will play significant roles.. Read more about jets rookies 2020 and let us know what you think.

In 2020, the New York Jets were one of the weakest teams in the NFL. In fact, the New Jersey-based club has only reached the playoffs 13 times in the 52 years since winning the Super Bowl in 1968. The Jets are in the midst of yet another rebuild and are currently the NFL’s youngest club. There are a dozen rookies on the Jets’ roster, but one stands out above the rest in their effort to rise out of the NFL’s bottom.

With the NFL’s youngest squad, the New York Jets are rebuilding.

The New York Jets have a 59-101 record since their last appearance in the NFL Playoffs (in 2010). A record like that can only indicate one thing: it’s time for a complete overhaul.

Following his return from a stint as the United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom, owner Woody Johnson reclaimed ownership of the club from his son Christopher in early 2021, according to NorthJersey.com. Now, he and third-year general manager Joe Douglas, as well as first-year head coach Robert Saleh, are working on a long-overdue comeback.

Expensive veterans like Jamal Adams and Le’Veon Bell are no longer with the team. They’ve been replaced by some of the team’s amazing 19 draft choices during the past two NFL Drafts.

According to ESPN, the Jets now have 25 of the 53 players on the current roster who were not on the team that went 2-14 last season. They are the league’s youngest squad, with an average age of 25.1 years, barely edging out the Detroit Lions, who are also rebuilding (25.2 years).

The Jets got to this point by retaining 12 rookies on their roster.

The Jets have 12 rookies on their roster, and at least eight of them should see meaningful action this season.

The Jets selected ten players in the 2020 NFL Draft, and all ten made the roster for Week 1. These are the players:

  • Zach Wilson, quarterback (No. 2 overall, BYU)
  • Alijah Vera-Tucker, OL (N0. 14, USC)
  • Elijah Moore (WR) (No. 34, Ole Miss)
  • Michael Carter, RB (No. 107, UNC)
  • Jamien Sherwood, LB (No. 146, Auburn)
  • CB Michael Carter II is a member of the Carter family (No. 154, Duke)
  • Jason Pinnock, CB (No. 175, Pitt)
  • LB Nasirildeen Hamsah (No. 186, FSU)
  • Brandin Echols, CB (No. 200, Kentucky)
  • Jonathan Marshall, DT (No. 207, Arkansas)

New York also acquired Oregon State’s undrafted cornerback Isaiah Dunn and Oklahoma State’s first-year NFL kicker Matt Ammendola.

Eight of these players are expected to play significant roles for the Jets this season. Wilson, Vera-Tucker, and Moore are all key offensive players. Carter will be part of an RB rotation that includes Ty Johnson, La’Mical Perrine, and Tevin Coleman.

Echols and Carter II will both get a lot of action on defense, while Sherwood will start at one of the linebacker positions. Ammendola, the Jets’ lone placekicker, is the seventh rookie on the roster.

Zach Wilson is the only rookie who matters.

The Jets will need fresh faces in the secondary, as well as Vera-Tucker and Moore, in 2021 and beyond. Zach Wilson, on the other hand, is the lone rookie who will virtually single-handedly decide the franchise’s long-term destiny.

Any NFL fan understands that a team’s destiny is mainly determined by its quarterback. When a club spends the No. 2 selection on a quarterback, the success or failure of that player may be the difference between a team making the playoffs for the first time in years or having to rebuild again in a few years.

Wilson is the player in question. During his tenure at BYU, the quarterback put up remarkable statistics while playing against less-than-stellar opposition. He only played two teams rated in the Top 25 in his senior year: Coastal Carolina and Boise State. His Cougars fell to the former and won 51-17 over the latter.

Wilson had a strong and productive preseason. He had the highest passing rating in the NFL with 137.7 in limited play.

If the rookie quarterback can maintain this level of play throughout the regular season, it will be fantastic for the Jets. Gang Green may be a contender for years to come with a quality NFL quarterback coupled with the league’s youngest squad.

In an effort to develop their upcoming team, the New York Jets signed a dozen of their rookies to contracts that will keep them on the team’s roster over the next year.
