Linda Noskova, hailing from the Czech Republic, advanced to the final of the Monterrey Open after defeating the second seed, Emma Navarro, with a score of 7-6 (7), 7-5 at Sonoma Club on Friday.
The match saw both players evenly matched for the first 12 games, resulting in a tiebreaker due to no break point conversions. Despite Navarro saving two set points in the tiebreaker, Noskova ultimately took the lead on the third set point.
The second set showcased multiple breaks of serve from both players, with the sixth seed ultimately securing three breaks against Navarro’s two to clinch the semi-final in less than two hours.
In the upcoming final, Noskova will face off against Lulu Sun, an unseeded player from New Zealand. This marks Noskova’s first final of the 2024 season, with Sun having previously defeated her in the first round of the Cincinnati Open. The Czech player is vying to secure her first career title and has amassed eight top 20 wins in her career (four of which were in 2024).
Sun booked her spot in the final by overcoming third seed Ekaterina Alexandrova with a score of 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(6). Throughout the tournament, Sun also defeated players like Erika Andreeva, Maria Lourdes Carle, and Chloe Paquet.
On the other hand, Noskova navigated her way to the final by defeating qualifier Anna Danilina, Xiyu Wang, and the fifth seed Elina Svitolina without dropping a set in Monterrey.
