Italian Jasmine Paolini, seeded No. 5, advanced to the US Open’s last 16 by defeating Yulia Putintseva, seeded No. 30, with a score of 6-3, 6-4 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Paolini, ranked No. 5, will face Karolina Muchova in the next round.
In earlier matches, Paolini defeated Bianca Andreescu and benefited from Karolina Pliskova’s withdrawal. Putintseva, ranked No. 32, won against Linda Noskova and Xinyu Wang in previous rounds.
